YESTERDAY, TRIBUTES POURED in for the legendary film composer, James Horner, who died in a plane crash on Monday.
The 61-year-old was responsible for scoring films like Titanic, Braveheart, Avatar and A Beautiful Mind. Over the course of his career, he won two Oscars and was nominated for a further eight.
So you can understand why people were a bit taken aback by this tweet from Slate.
The offending tweet led to an appraisal of Horner’s musical oeuvre, which described Horner’s music as “emotionally blunt” and noted how he had a successful career in spite of the “low opinions of certain insiders”.
It sent the internet into a bit of a rage spiral.

Journalist J. Bryan Lowder, who wrote the piece, later apologised for the tweet and stated that his piece was intended to be an “even-handed” evaluation of his work.
